Possible closure of Richmond branch of District Line

OHMIGOD - I had been wondering why I had had a number of people coming to this blog with the search term "closure of Richmond station" and variations of this. I'd thought it was because of all the usual bloody closures we have on this branch because of over running engineering works. But no - it's because the piece of the District Line between Richmond and Turnham Green may well be closed down. Brilliant, let's just close down one of the "fastest" (term used very loosely at the moment) direct ways of getting into town for 30,000 people like me who use it every day.

"Local Greater London Assembly rep Tony Arbour, blasted Ken Livingstone for refusing to consider either running both Crossrail and District Line trains on the same track or alternatively extending the existing line to Kingston.

He said the Mayors response to my proposals for improving the rail facilities of the our part of London showed his lack of awareness of the importance of the District Line to local commuters. He said that Crossrail would replace the clapped out trains on the District Line."

OK - the Crossrail trains are supposed to run more frequently than the District Line trains, and apprarently have double the capacity. It's going to be added hassle having to change at Turnham Green, particularly when the Piccadilly Line for reasons known only to God does not stop at Turnham Green when it could quite easily. I've lost count of the amount of times I've had to make "easy change" at Hammersmith onto the Piccadilly line and see sadistic tube drivers tantalisingly drive off just as us poor souls from the District Line trains are about to reach the doors. So we'd have this fine "game" twice a journey now.

Oh God - I feel another campaign coming on!
